The three finalists, Ginger Minj, Pearl, and Violet Chachki sashayed for Ru's final blessing. Season five winner Jinkx Monsoon was kooky, kitschy, and slyly carnal.
Though Ginger Minj was the favorite going into the finale thanks to her wild showmanship and electrifying impersonation of Adele, the crown went to Violet Chachki. In seasons past, contestants won “Ru Paul's Drag Race” for exhibiting a range of charismatic traits.
In an attempt to make the young models understand their bodies, angles, and how to pose for the camera, Tyra brought on dancer Benny Ninja in cycle 8 to instruct the girls.
Her win is also highly debated, some claiming that Ongina was robbed of a top three spot, or that Nina Flowers should have taken the crown over her – however, Ru made the right decision crowning Bebe as the first winner.
Be Be beat runner-up Nina Flowers on March 23, 2009.
— Hailing from Orlando, Florida, Tyra was not only the winningest contestant on her season, but was also the only Season 2 queen to never lip sync for her life and the youngest champion to date.
The other Tyra is also notoriously known for controversy, her most infamous act being when she tweeted at a fan “kill yourself” – after calling her annoying.
Amidst the backlash, she never apologized, even claiming that people who commit suicide are “selfish cowards”. It’s evident why many think of Raven as the true winner of season 2 – a queen who has inspired many a mug and has maintained a good online presence to this day.
